Passwords are required for access to a range of features and capabilities relating to your hosting account including the hosting control panel and FTP access. To reduce the risk of unauthorised parties from accessing your hosting account, we recommend that all passwords contains some form of complication and are only known to personnel who require access.
In general, we recommend that all passwords are
- At least 8 characters long
- Contain both letters and numbers
- Contains both uppercase and lowercase letters.
Generating a complicated password
A complicated password can either be a random string, or a known word or phrase in which you have transposed values. For example, the string ARedMorning can prove to the basis for a fairly complicated password. You can replace certain characters with numbers to make a complicated password. Possible transpositions include:
- O can be repaced with 0
- I or L can be replaced with a 1
- Z can be replaced with a 2
- E can be replaced with a 3
- A can be replaced with 4
Using the values above, the string ARedMorning becomes 4R3dM0rn1ng.
